First report shortly after 8 PM on November 4 to include vote-by-mail and early voted ballots

Marin County, CA – Voters in the November 4 Statewide Special Election can see first returns shortly after 8 PM on Election Night by checking the election results website.

According to Marin County Registrar of Voters Natalie Adona, ballots from vote centers cast during the early voting period and vote-by-mail ballots counted up to that point will be included in the first report.

By law, Election Night results must be updated no later than every two hours until all vote centers report to the Civic Center. After Election Day, results will be updated no less than twice a week until counting is completed. Post-election updates will include the number of ballots left to count.

As of 4:30 PM on November 3, Adona said the turnout is close to 50%. Marin County has about 174,000 registered voters for this election.

“Throughout October, our office has seen a steady stream of voted ballots returned in this election,” Adona said. “As always, Marin County voters are engaged and enthusiastic about voting. We expect that there will be robust participation on Election Day.”

Instead of mailing, voters may drop off their ballot at one of several official drop boxes located throughout the county or at any vote center before 8 PM on Election Day. The list of locations is printed in the county Voter Information Guide and also posted at the Elections website.

Voters can track their ballot by signing up for Where’s My Ballot, a free service available on the Secretary of State’s website.

Vote-by-mail ballots dropped off at vote centers and official ballot drop boxes on Election Day will be processed during the elections canvass. Voters must sign the return envelope, so ballots can be processed.

If a voter forgets to sign their return envelope, or if the signature does not compare with the one on file, the Elections Department will send a letter with instructions for curing the problem.

Voters unable to return a vote-by-mail ballot may designate another person to return it for them by filling out the form on the back of the return envelope.

“I strongly encourage voters to only have someone they know and trust to return a ballot on their behalf,” Adona said.

Voters should call the Elections Department at 415-473-6456 with questions or concerns.
