Marin County taxpayers are asked to pay online, by phone, by mail, or in-person to avoid penalties.

Property tax payments can be made online or by phone at (800) 985-7277. The Tax Collector’s online and telephone payment service uses a secure internet portal and there is no service fee when paying with an electronic check (e-check).

Those wishing to drop off their payments in person can use a secured and monitored drop box outside the Tax Collector’s Office (Suite 202). In addition, drivers may use a drop box in the South Archway at the Civic Center anytime through December 10.

If a property tax bill says, “a copy of this bill was sent to a paying agent at their request,” it means a lender requested the bill. Property owners should check with lenders before the due date if unsure whether the lender will pay property taxes. Remember, it’s the property owner’s responsibility to make sure taxes are paid on time.

Parcel tax exemption information and forms are available online or can be obtained directly from the district that offers the exemption. Parcel tax exemption eligibility and filing deadlines vary by district and are administered by those districts, not the Tax Collector’s Office. Income based parcel tax exemption applications must be submitted annually before tax bills are prepared.

Eligible individuals may qualify for a payment postponement administered by the State Controller’s Office (SCO). They will accept Property Tax Postponement (PTP) applications until February 10, 2026. The criteria to be eligible for PTP may have changed from prior years. Please visit the SCO website for more information. Call 1 (800) 952-5661 or email the SCO with questions about payment postponement.

For questions about property tax billing,  email the Tax Collector staff. Questions about assessed values are best answered by the County Assessor staff.

The Tax Collector’s office is located at Suite 202, Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, and is open 9 AM to 4:30 PM weekdays. Office hours on Wednesday, December 10, will be from 8 AM to 5 PM.
